Antique jewelry for the modern woman
victorian black enamel, diamond, and pearl gypsy set open back locket
Sentimental and striking, this Victorian starburst locket, circa 1880s-1900, is an antique treasure.
Large in scale, this 14 karat yellow gold piece demands attention. At center is a chunky old mine cut diamond weighing approximately 0.35 carats set within an 8-point starburst setting in matte yellow gold with shiny black enamel all around, creating a powerful effect. On the outer rim of the locket are 48 pearls in trefoil clusters, with each pearl measuring 2.55mm. At top is a removable bale with an additional 3 pearls.
The reverse of the piece is just as exciting as the front. The back reveals a beveled glass photo area that accommodates an image 1.2" tall x 0.76" wide. A convertible piece, once the bale at top is removed, the back pin and c-clasp transforms the pendant into a brooch.
It hangs on a vintage 30 inch 14 karat yellow gold snake chain, making it long and sexy.
