The Story
A bright and colorful Edwardian "Toi et Moi" ring made in the early 1900s from 18 karat yellow gold.
Elongated in shape, two old cut oval sapphires are complementary in color. One end has prong set bright yellow sapphire weighing approximately 1.98 carats, while the other has a blue sapphire weighing approximately 2.16 carats. Curving gold links the two stones and is set with 22 old cut diamonds ranging in size from 0.01 to 0.04 carats each, for a total diamond weight approximately 0.44 carats.
A French saying, “Toi et Moi” means You and Me and in jewelry refers to a ring that showcases two stones symbolizing two people. These were common engagement rings during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, symbolizing two souls that are intertwined. The ring that is believed to have started the trend was a diamond and sapphire engagement ring given by Napoleon to Josephine in 1776.
